Employer Sponsored Visas Occupation Lists

What are the Skilled Occupations that can be sponsored?

Occupations that can be sponsored are found in the following legislative instruments which are updated frequently. Which list your occupation is found on can determine what visa you can apply under, and for the temporary residency visas, how long the visa can be granted for.

IMMI 18/048: Specification of Occupations and Assessing Authorities—Subclass 482 Visa

IMMI 18/049: Specification of Occupations and Assessing Authorities—Subclass 186 Visa

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa (subclass 187)

The below legislative instrument lists eligible skilled occupations for the RSMS visa

IMMI 18/043: Specification of Occupations — Subclass 187 Visa

The below legislative instrument lists skilled occupations which require skills assessments

IMMI 12/096 – Specification of Occupations and Assessing Authorities

To apply under the ENS Subclass 186 Visa an overseas skilled worker must have been nominated by an Australian employer to fill a position in an occupation that appears on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). In addition he/she must be able to demonstrate that they have the necessary skills/qualifications/work experience for the nominated position.

There are numerous ways this can be done including:

  • Temporary Residency Transition (TRT) Stream - Working in the nominated occupation with nominating employer for 2 years prior to applying for the ENS visa OR
  • Direct Entry Stream - Gaining a positive skills assessment for migration purposes from the appropriate Skills Assessing Body for the nominated occupation (must provide original positive skills assessment letter with ENS visa application). In addition he/she must also hold at least 3 years post qualification work experience in this nominated occupation

Certain nominated occupations for ENS purposes also require the visa applicant to hold a licence or registration in order to work in Australia. In such cases an applicant can provide evidence that he/she is eligible to unconditionally hold that licence or registration with the visa application instead of gaining a positive skills assessment in the nominated occupation.
